Obituary for Virginia E. Paul

Virginia E (Hylok) Paul, 77, Algoma, passed away on February 11, 2018 at St Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay, WI from complications of pneumonia. She was born on February 12, 1940 to Roman and Louise (Kaczrowski) Hylok.
Virginia grew up in Green Bay, WI and after graduating from High School, she attended Bellin School of Nursing where she received her RN degree. She married Norbert on April 15, 1961. Since it was tax day, she figured Norb wouldn’t forget their anniversary. They were married for 56 years.
Virg stopped working and became a stay at home mom when her children were born, but she was active in her community, church and her children’s school. Her daughter followed in her footsteps and became a nurse and her son inherited his mother’s outgoing personality. Everyone said, Virginia could talk to anyone. People came up to her and wanted to talk. She had a beautiful smile and always made people feel a little happier. She was just THAT kind of a person. She was the “other mother” to many of her children’s’ friends and to this day, many still call her “mom”.
She was a wicked sheepshead (schafkopf) player, keeping track of all play, tricks and count at her table and leaning over to help her friend at the next table learn the game. She was amazingly quick that way. She also loved playing any type of game with her granddaughters.
Virg’s love of music was a lifelong passion, beginning when she sang the Ave Maria solo at Christmas mass as a youth to her constant humming around the house as she was cooking or cleaning. She loved to polka and was frequently found on the dance floor when she was younger. Virg passed this love of music on to her children and her beautiful singing voice on to the grandchildren.
Virginia adored her granddaughters and they were the light of her life. She was an avid Packer fan and putting her amazing “green thumb” to work in her gardens.
She is survived by her husband Norbert; her two children Lori Hayes of Madison, WI and Norbert Paul of Green Bay, WI; her 3 granddaughters Sierra, Alivia and Kyra Paul; her sister Mary (Larry) Zuidmulder; her sister-in law Bette Ahlers; and her nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Roman (Ray) and Louise Hylok.
Visitation will be held at the Nicolet Memorial Gardens (Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum) 2770 Bay Settlement Road, Green Bay on Thursday, Feb., 15, 2018 from 10 AM to 12 PM with a funeral service to follow with Fr. Carl Schmitt officiating. She will be interned at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
The family wishes to thank the amazing staff of St. Vincent’s Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Virginia. Thank you also to Virginia’s family and friends for coming to visit her or make a phone call to keep in touch as she wasn’t always able to go see them in the recent years. She was a big believer in friendship and paying it forward, so in her memory, reach out to someone you care about and tell them how much you love and care for them. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to your favorite charity in Virginia’s name.
The SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma, assisted the family with arrangements.
